Description

The position provides an extensive 24 months training mainly in Merchandising, but also Risk Management, Trading Operations and Market Analysis, to produce excellent commodity merchandising professionals in diverse agricultural commodities: grains, oilseeds, feed and processing by-products. On successful completion of training the trainee will embark on an exciting commercial career in the Merchandising Job Family with one of the CASC EMEA product lines in the dedicated country.

 

Principal Accountabilities

Learn the Agricultural commodities trading industry: worldwide, historical evolution, mission, our role in it, figures, flows, inventories, transportation, commodities, quality specifics for each product.

  • Know the local market for Commodity Merchandising: value, partners, flows, common behaviors, related legislation, fiscal policy around it
  • Learn what are the influencers: market SND balances, Industry economics, technological change, external political and global environment
  • Understand the local SND equilibrium factors
  • Understand the PNL elements and how to best manage it
  • Know INCOTERMS and local exceptions from them
  • Learn on various Transport modes and Operations/Storage costs
  • Develop skills on Cargill's trading and hedging strategies, tactics and practices, including the use of futures, risk management derivatives and structured products
  • Develop working knowledge of economic Supply / Demand research and analysis
  • Initiate, negotiate and agree on terms of commodity purchase, sale contracts, such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing and payment
  • Coordinate transportation and logistics to execute commodity contracts
  • Ensure thorough and accurate follow-up, execution, and closure of all contracts

 

  • 10%: commercial introduction/introduction to company, mission, goals, business plan, start internal training via NourishingU or manager
  • 10%: Getting the Basics: understanding the basics of merchandising, product, specs, reporting. Also understanding price building, the customer interface (marketing) and the position reporting. Understanding the use of credit limits and the gaining the ability to handle a small market under supersvision. Enter contracts into system and PNL file, support in regular market analytics under supervision of senior merchant
  • 25% introduction to supply chain: take over smaller tasks in supply chain, such as planning, trade execution, settlement of contracts
  • 5% introduction to finance: learn basis in finance by supporting the team with daily position reconciliation, review of accounts receivables & accounts payables; learning about key metrics such as working capital, ROGI, accruals, OCOGS, CAPEX)
  • 5% introduction to operations: shadow operations team in loading, weighbridge, sampling, lab, silo, production
  • 20% next steps in commercial: measure and forecast (learn about and support the calculation of PNL, explanation, BOM position, forex calculation), position reconciliation, domestic trading acitivities, take over hedging for product line, creation of supply and demand analysis, close cooperation with supply chain in contract execution, daily contact wiht customers/suppliers, review of local competitors
  • 25% final steps in commercial: control full PNL, be responsible for own sub-trading account by buying and selling cash products while forecasting fluctuations in prices and market conditions (weather, transportation, etc.), develop further supplier/customer relationships, seek out and develop opportunities in risk managment/position taking; be abel to handle larger accounts

Qualifications

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • University degree: preferred major - marketing, finance, economics
  • Up to 3 years of prior internship/work experience
  • Business fluency in English. Any other language a strong plus
  • Computer literate
